
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us. If someone tells you they love you, how do you know it’s true? You know it’s true because they demonstrate how they feel by what they say and what they do! How do we know God loves us? The same way – by what He says about us and what He has done for us!
Often we judge God’s love for us based on the relationships we have had with others, which are imperfect and often conditional. Those who have experienced childhood trauma have difficulty accepting God’s love because they don’t even love themselves. Once they open themselves up and experience His love, He will heal up their hearts and remove the emotional scars left behind from the trauma. God’s love can make them feel brand new and totally free!
We can never understand it. God’s love is perfect, complete, satisfying and faithful. Human love can never even come close to God’s love. It’s beyond our comprehension. Ephesians 3:19 says, “and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
God’s Love Is Unconditional. We sometimes compare God’s love to human love, but there is no comparison. People tend to love others conditionally and love the ones they are drawn to and feel a connection with but God loves each of us unconditionally in whatever situation we find ourselves in. It doesn’t matter to Him if you are rich or poor, have an education or not, live in a mansion or live on the street. You can rely on His love no matter what your past is. 1 John 4:16 says, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
God is a Personal God. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love for us that He would give His only Son to die for us. What Christ did for us on the cross is the cornerstone of our faith. Most people are familiar with the scriptural account of Jesus' death and resurrection. We as Christians are so thankful that God so loved the world, but He also wants you to know and experience His love for you personally. God is a personal God and loves each of us individually and He wants us to love Him back. He wants us to come to him with all of our concerns in prayer but more than that, He wants us to feel His Love for us first.
You Can Experience God’s Love. Even though we will never understand it, God still desires that we feel and experience the depths of His love. We can rest knowing how much He loves us. Ephesians 3:17-19 says, “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
Practical Ways You Can Begin to Experience God’s Love. We all need a deep and fresh revelation of God’s Love for us - a personal experience with God’s Love. As Christians, we walk by faith. Everything from God is received by faith. So you can begin by thanking and praising Him by faith that you are deeply loved by God – morning and evening. Memorize a few Scripture verses about God’s love. Keep reminding yourself of how much He loves you. Little by little, as you do these practical things, you will start to feel His love.

The Transforming Power of God’s Love. As we meditate on God’s deep love for us, it changes everything. As you begin to experience and feel secure in God’s love, it changes the core of your identity. You no longer define yourself by your past or your trauma or by what you do or by what you accomplish but by the fact that you’re a beloved child of God. It changes how you love others. You begin to love others out of the overflow of a full heart. It changes your desires and dreams. When you live with a constant awareness that you are deeply loved by God you begin to desire what God desires. You dream about making His love known to others and joining Him in whatever He is doing.
Once you experience His amazing Love, you want to feel it all the time. You will find yourself talking to Him all throughout your day. He will speak into your heart by His Spirit. He will illuminate the Scriptures as you read them and bring you fresh revelation of Himself. Honestly, there is no truth that will change your life as radically as grasping the love of God for you! God by His very nature is Love. Once you get ahold of this truth, you will find you have so much joy in your heart, it will feel like you’re going to burst! – It is life-changing!
If difficulties come and you find yourself feeling down and focusing on your troubles, take time to refocus your mind on God and meditate on the love of God for you. Remember, He wants us to feel His incomprehensible and unconditional Love. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a fresh experience of God’s love. He loves it when we come to Him. He will welcome you in and fill your heart with wonder as He reveals the many facets of His Love for you!
